SWIMMING LESSONS ( no fee,
included in membership )
Swimming
lessons are offered in two sessions for the summer and are Red Cross designated
programs. The schedule is posted on the
bulletin board outside the swim office and lessons do not take place on
Fridays. As much as possible the lessons are organized around the
paddling schedule so that the children can attend all activities.
Swimming
lessons generally begin on the swim dock and swimmers should assemble there at
lesson time. In order to avoid accidents between swimmers and boats, swimmers
are required to keep to the swimming area and away from the boat dock. The only
area of the dock from which a swimmer may enter the water is between the lane
lines.
SWIM TEAM
Banook’s summer swim team is a unique
program to the other paddling clubs in the HRM. The team practices each morning
at the Dartmouth Sportsplex, prior to the start of the paddling programs to
ensure that members can attend both programs ( paddling and swim team). The
swim team competes at summer swim meets throughout the summer and at the
Provincial Meet at the end of the summer season.
Cost: $85.00
LIFE’S A BEACH
Life on the beach is a significant
activity at Banook. Families spend their time on the beach when they are not
involved in paddling. There they can play, swim and relax. The beach and
grassed areas are for all members to enjoy. Please help keep the grass and
beach area clean. Use the garbage bins that are provided, and encourage your
children to do the same.
The supervised waterfront area consists of one main area,
subdivided into three sections. The first is very shallow, and meant for
small children, toddlers, waders and Aqua tot classes. The second area extends
out to the raft. It drops off approximately 10-12 feet so it’s ok to dive from
the raft. The third area is between the floating raft and the dock. It is used
for recreational swimming and lessons for Aqua quest levels 2-5.
Lifeguards are
on duty Monday to Friday from 9am to 5 pm, and between 12pm and 5pm
on Saturday and Sunday. Those hours are extended during regattas and
other club events.
